Heated vest listings all say the same three things. Instant heat. Three or four zones. All-day warmth. None of that tells you the one number that decides whether you keep the vest: how long it stays warm at the setting you actually use.
That number is a function of battery capacity in divided by the garment's , and it degrades in the cold. A vest sold on "all-day warmth" with a 5,000 mAh pack gives about five hours on medium in a warm room and closer to four outdoors in February. The vest is not lying, exactly. It is measuring a day you do not have.
